David H. McCarley, DDS, F.A.G.D.
Dr. David McCarley was born in Austin, Texas and raised in Blue Ridge, Texas. His family later moved to McKinney where he made lifelong friends, graduated from McKinney HS where he played football and participated in many clubs and activities. He remembers when the entire Stonebridge area was the place he and friends went duck hunting and camping out just to get away from the busy city that McKinney was then (Population 16K). This is his hometown and he enjoys being familiar with community members. People have known him for years and describe him as "the friend's, family's and everyone-in-town's dentist."
Dr. McCarley is a graduate of Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology. After serving as a graduate teaching assistant in microbiology at Texas Tech and then a microbiology lab coordinator for the University of Arizona, he entered Baylor College of Dentistry. Dr. McCarley has been practicing family dentistry in McKinney since his graduation in 1981.
He has done extensive post-doctoral work at the L. D. Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education, an internationally renowned program focusing on comprehensive dental care including occlusal therapy, TMJ therapy, advanced periodontics and full mouth reconstruction. Dr. McCarley earned his fellowship with the American Academy of General Dentistry in 1989 (FAGD).
Dr. McCarley's enthusiasm for dentistry extends to his activities in the Texas Dental Association. Not only is he the youngest person ever elected to the TDA Board of Directors, but he was also honored in 1993 as Young Dentist of the Year for the State of Texas. He served as Vice President of the TDA in 1994 and 1995 and continues to be a delegate to the TDA. In May 2007, Dr. McCarley was asked to serve on the TDAs Council on Constitution and Bylaws. In 2008 he was asked to serve as the chairman of this council. Also in 2008, Dr. McCarley was asked to serve on the American Dental Association (ADA)s Council on Ethics, Bylaws, and Judicial Affairs. He is very involved with Collin County Community College and serves on the board of the CCCC dental hygiene program. He also works closely with area schools for athletic equipment to make color coordinated mouthpieces in appropriate school colors.
Most recently Dr. McCarley was recognized in "Texas Monthly Magazine" as a SUPER Dentist for 2006, 2007, and 2008. Each year a ballot is sent to more than 9,000 Texas dentists. The ballot asks dental professionals to nominate one or more dentists other than themselves from specified dental specialties based on one question: "If you needed dental care, which dentist would you choose?" The intent is to identify those dentists most highly regarded by their peers. The candidates are divided in major Texas geographic regions and a Blue Ribbon panel verifies the candidates standing with the Texas Board of Dental Examiners and the dentists with the highest point totals in each of the geographic regions will be named in Texas Super Dentist. Dr. McCarley has been honored to have been named as Texas Super Dentist for the last 3 years.
Dr. McCarley continues to love his career choice because as he believes, he feels he is making a difference in people's lives and really feels good when he sees that big smile as patients leave the office. He loves his family and enjoys spending time with his wife and best friend Lee Ann and 1 or all of his 5 children and 4 grandchildren. Traveling, scuba diving, and working with his horses at his ranch in Anna are among his favorite activities.
